Iodine: Why you need it
Found this book recently. It was a powerful coincidince since I was looking to supplement iodine based on a clue that it could improve metabolism. I had a friend in highschool who was overweight and I bumped into him at a party 15 years later. I could not even recognize him he was so skinny. He looked like a completely different person. I asked him what he did to loose the weight and he told me he was prescribed iodine by his doctor. I was not very concerned with my weight at the time, but I remembered what he had said.
What I got from the book
I read most of the book in one sitting. It made alot of sense to me and it seems like a pretty safe supplement to take. Of course this is not any kind of medical advice. Consult your doctor. I am just sharing my opinion and referencing the book. According to the author Dr. Brownstien, most people are deficient in iodine and the RDA recommended dosage is not optimal. It may be enough to prevent goiters but not optimal. Dr. Brownstien recommends a combination of iodine/iodide as different parts of the body need it in one form or the other. If you have headaches, fatigue, thyroid problems, autoimmune disorder you may benefit from an iodine supplement.
Why do we need a supplement of iodine?
Why do we need a supplement of iodine? according to the book there are several reasons. Depleted soil, toxicity from halides like bromine and florine are mentioned in the book. Iodine is also a halide but it is essential where as bromine is toxic and should not be in our bodies. According to the book if we give the body sufficient iodine and stop ingesting bromine the iodine will eventually replace the bromine which attaches to the same receptors of the body.
